Extra Coverage and Policy Upgrades for Bali

We know that you want flexibility in your travel insurance. That’s why our policies offer extra options to provide more coverage, subject to sub-limits, terms, conditions, or exclusions.
  • Natural Disaster Cover: Bali can experience extreme weather events including floods, cyclones and tsunamis. It’s also located in the “Ring of Fire”, so volcanic eruptions and earthquakes are possible. Choosing this upgrade means we can cover your out-of-pocket expenses up to policy limits if your trip is cut short due to a natural disaster that was not a known event prior to you purchasing your policy.
  • Additional Specified Items Cover: Planning on taking your laptop for the digital nomad experience? You can purchase additional cover for high-value items. This provides coverage up to $4,000 per item, with a combined total limit of $6,000 for all specified items.
  • Remove Excess: For a small fee, you can choose to remove excesses in the event of a claim. This extra benefit means less stress if you need to make a claim.

What’s not covered

Our policies aren’t designed to cover everything. Understanding exclusions helps you avoid surprises. Some of the things we can’t cover include:
  • Scooter riding without the proper license and safety equipment: If you ride a scooter in Bali, you need the right license. If you ride a motorbike of 125cc or more, you must have a valid Australian license for that type of vehicle. All drivers and passengers must wear a helmet regardless of local laws.
  • Undeclared Pre-Existing Medical Conditions: Pre-existing medical conditions that are not disclosed or approved at the time of purchase are not covered.
  • High-Risk Activities: Injuries or accidents from participating in high-risk or extreme sports (e.g., mountaineering or racing) are not covered. We do not cover sports or activities where the appropriate add-on has not been purchased.
  • Travelling Against Official Advice: Travel to destinations that are subject to “do not travel” advice by the Australian Government. Check Smartraveller for more information.
  • Unattended Luggage and Belongings: Loss, theft, or damage to luggage or personal effects that were left unattended or in unsecured locations is not covered.
  • Alcohol and Drug Use: We can't cover claims where the traveller was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, other than those prescribed by a medical professional.
It’s important to be aware of what you are and aren’t covered for under travel insurance. Be sure to read your Product Disclosure Statement for the full terms and conditions.

What if you want to ride a Scooter in Bali?

Scooters are a fun and efficient way to explore Bali, but safety is important. Here’s how to stay safe and ensure you’re covered:
  1. Wear a Helmet: Non-negotiable for safety and coverage, either as the driver or a passenger.
  2. Check Your License: Ensure you hold a driving licence appropriate for Bali, and if using a motorcycle rated 125cc or higher, hold a current and valid license required for driving an equivalent-rated motorcycle in Australia.
  3. Take caution when driving at night: Poor lighting and unpredictable road conditions make it risky.
  4. Stay Covered: Tick offers insurance for scooter-related accidents, provided safety rules are followed.
